A LIVE blog of the goings on at Art All State 23! As one of the artist/mentors involved in the event I'll be blogging from one of the actual studios while we transform it into a unique piece of installation art!
If you can't make it to Art All State-- held annually at the Worcester Art Museum- this is your chance to see what it's like to participate!
You can check out the student blog and the teacher blog too!
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
The first day came to an end with the introduction of a missing student. Alex had thought the event was Saturday/Sunday so he didn’t arrive until well after 8pm. Making him feel part of the group after coming in so late created a challenge that Susan and I attempted to address by engaging him into the process. Today will see if we were successful.
One of the instrumental elements to the success of a studio is your partnership with your fellow artist/mentor. Over the years I’ve seen cases where they don’t get along at all. Usually it’s just a personality thing—some of us take ourselves and our work a bit more seriously than others (and I mean artists in general) and some of us can be quite laid back. I think this year the connecting studios of myself, Susan Halls, Tom Grady, Bill Myers, Steve Butler and Veronica might be the most laid back group of people outside of the time the Phish Concert was held during a Dave Matthews Festival with special guest Jack Johnson. I feel like there should be sand on the floor and we should be walking around with no shoes.
Day Two begins in half an hour and it will start with a group meeting to see if we can get that energy level back up— note to organizers— COFFEE available for students would go a long way on Friday night.
