A LIVE blog of the goings on at Art All State 23! As one of the artist/mentors involved in the event I'll be blogging from one of the actual studios while we transform it into a unique piece of installation art!

If you can't make it to Art All State-- held annually at the Worcester Art Museum- this is your chance to see what it's like to participate!

You can check out the student blog and the teacher blog too!

ART ALL STATE

I’m Andy Fish and this is my sixth or seven year as an Art All State Artist/Mentor— these blog posts are for anyone interested in learning more about AAS and giving you a first hand look at the process— I’ll be posting right from the action starting tomorrow morning!

You can find the Official AAS page over at

http://www.worcesterart.org/Education/allstate.html

but you want the real dirt don’t ya?

Well, you came to the right place!

How do you get to be an artist/mentor at Art All State?  They have a call each fall for artists, you submit your work and go through a competitive interview process which involves some interpretive dance in front of a live audience and BAM— they let you know if you’re in or not sometime around New Years.

Artists are paired up and then assigned a group of 16 high school juniors who themselves were chosen from a large group of nominees— these are the best of the best.

You then get two days to oversee the creation of a large installation using LIMITED MATERIALS chosen by the artists.  What gets done is completely the work of the students, how it gets done is where the artists come in.

The program starts for me with an artist meeting at the ungodly hour of 8:30am on Friday, with free breakfast and not enough coffee— so I’ll probably get there around 8. My fiance Veronica Hebard is on her second tour as an artist/mentor at AAS so we’ll both be dragging ourselves in early.
